The Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace & Justice (RCF) is looking for partners to help to fund the 2017 Rachel Corrie Gaza Sport Initiative, which consists of the 10th Annual Rachel Corrie Ramadan Tournament for Young Men (May 27-June 14) and the 1st Rachel Corrie Ramadan Tournament for Juniors (June 12-June 22), and the 4th Annual Tournament for Athletes with Disabilities (Winter). The Rachel Corrie Gaza Sport Initiative is an annual project that helps to provide a safe space for Gazans to gather through athletic events and allow neighbors to come together as friends, and as Palestinians. The projects are a success when athletes and their families and friends participate and experience a level of enjoyment, play, normality, and a positive sense of community that is otherwise absent in Gaza due to the persistent pressures of military occupation and closure.
Funding provides all the basics: stadium rental, supplies and preparations, new footballs, and other necessities. Funding also covers extras that make these tournaments special to the community, like small prizes and a community Iftar dinner.
The tournaments are planned and run by organizers in Gaza. This on-the-ground project ownership empowers our partners to develop excellent leadership, communication, and organizing skills. The tournaments also provide economic opportunity for local workers and vendors.
Great! We are thrilled to have your support, and realize that everyone has different reasons for supporting and sharing this cause. When you choose to give, the money is disbursed to the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace & Justice is then distributed to project partners in Gaza.
The current fundraising goal is $19,415*, which will fully fund both tournaments for 2017 (Not including the Tournament for Athletes with Disabilities which takes place in the Winter).
*Any excess funds raised will be specifically designated for future tournaments.
We are excited and honored to have your help in sharing your stories, connecting to the people in Gaza, and encouraging meaningful and peaceful engagements and experiences in our global community.
